If a dream seems to make a big impression on you when you wake up, chances are there is something bigger than the literal scenario. Your dream may have been working in symbols instead of flashing some sort of short film on you. The dream could also have a hidden message or even a prophecy. So, you need to really dig deep to find out what it is trying to tell you. But how do you go about doing just that. Here is a short process that tells you how:
Write down your dream as soon as you wake up
You need to place a notebook and pen on your bedside table, or anywhere near your bed. When you wake up, write down as many details as you can remember about your dream. Write down even those that feel unimportant.
Underline dream symbols
Go back to your dream narrative. Underline or highlight important dream symbols that you can find. Take note of those that have made the most lingering impression on you. A symbol such as these may be the focus of the whole dream.
Find a dream dictionary
If you have a dream dictionary, look for the dream symbols and their meanings. You may also use free online dream dictionaries if you do not have a printed copy.
Choose the most applicable meanings
Dream symbols usually come with two or more meanings. Pick the meaning that makes sense to you. If none of the meanings make sense, you may use traditional meanings that have not been included. Maybe they will make more sense.
Put the meanings together
Combine the meanings you have looked up. Make them work together as one story. If the pieces fit and make sense in relation to your life, that makes for a great dream analysis.
